Audience: Early Intervention/Childhood Specialists,  Behavioral Specialists,
Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists,
Speech/Language Pathologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists,
Psychiatrists, Pediatricians, Parents and Daycare providers.
Content: This workshop is designed to offer practical sensory strategies which improve the ability of toddlers
and young children to play and function in their various daily environments.  A variety of sensory
activities & environmental strategies will be highlighted using hands-on-participation & videos of
typical tots and those challenges, including engagement.
Topics include:
•   Everyday issues related to waking up, picky eating, getting dressed, teeth brushing, potty time,
hair washing, finger nail cutting, bath time, bedtime and more.
•  Strategies to help Touchy Tots, Sensitive Ears, Busy Bees, Fumbling Tots, Tippy Toe Tots, Cautious
Tots, and Spirited Tots.
•  A case study using the new “SPM-Preschool” (for 2-5 year-olds) published in April 2010.
NOTE: Each participant will receive a Tools for Tots: Sensory Strategies for Toddlers and
Preschoolers™ book which will be used throughout the workshop.

About

Funded with a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation of the State of Michigan and the Kellogg Foundation, our project began in April of 2006. The goal of the project is to form multiple collaborative bodies in the state to begin development of a comprehensive system of early childhood care and education for 0-5 year olds and their families. This system is similar to the Smart Start system of North Carolina and the state of Michigan is receiving technical assistance in our efforts from the state of North Carolina.
