House Health Reform Bill Needs Your Help

By Director

If you support this house bill which the ECIC supports the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in this effort to ensure that children are covered in national health reform then we need your help!
Monitor MegaphoneURGENT: We Need Your Help Today: Tell your Representative to Support the House Health Reform Bill Before Tomorrow’s Vote!

TOMORROW NIGHT, the United States House of Representatives is set to vote on its health reform bill, the Affordable Health Care for America Act (HR 3962). This is a critical moment in the health reform debate, which is why we need you to help make sure that right now, when it counts the most, our members of Congress remember our children.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

WE NEED YOU to contact your representative TODAY and ask him/her to VOTE TO PASS HR 3962 as a significant step toward enacting meaningful health reform for children. House leadership is still counting votes in support of the bill among its members, so every phone call you make and every email you send today can make a difference in whether this bill is able to pass out of the House tomorrow.

Call the Capitol Operator at 202-224-3121 to find out the name of your representative, or visit the “Find Your Representative” box on house.gov and relay the following information:

Please vote to pass HR 3962. The bill takes significant steps toward achieving the American Academy of Pediatrics’ highest priorities for health reform: coverage for all children in the United States, age-appropriate benefits in a medical home and appropriate payment rates to allow access to covered services. These investments will help bend the cost curve over the long term.

THIS IS IT—WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY! IT IS UP TO US TO SHOW CONGRESS HOW IMPORTANT CHILDREN ARE IN THIS DEBATE!

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND INFORMATION:

For additional information on child-specific provisions within the bill, visit the Department of Federal Affairs’ Web page by logging in to the AAP Member Center and clicking on the Health Care Reform icon. Also, the House of Representatives has just published a two-page document that breaks down how children specifically can benefit from the bill.

AAP is listed on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s Web site as a supporting organization of HR 3962, and the Academy’s letter of support can be found on the Department of Federal Affairs’ Web page. While the Academy has not endorsed the legislation, AAP continues to work to ensure that the best provisions from both the House and the Senate bills remain in the final health reform legislation sent to President Obama.

CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAN’T WAIT! GET INVOLVED TODAY!

About

Funded with a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation of the State of Michigan and the Kellogg Foundation, our project began in April of 2006. The goal of the project is to form multiple collaborative bodies in the state to begin development of a comprehensive system of early childhood care and education for 0-5 year olds and their families. This system is similar to the Smart Start system of North Carolina and the state of Michigan is receiving technical assistance in our efforts from the state of North Carolina.
