Seeking Volunteer Money Mentors

Money Mentors is an educational program from Michigan State University Extension to
strengthen the money management skills of residents of Charlevoix and Emmet Counties
through ongoing mentoring.

Volunteer Money Mentors:

  • Are trained to assist all, regardless of reading ability or material resources
  • Serve as a positive role model and friend, keeping strict confidentiality
  • Build trust as you use tools to develop financial skills
  • Strive for mutual respect, build self-esteem and motivation
  • Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them
  • Are at least 21 years of age, and agree to a criminal history check
  • Are willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Are willing to complete the application, screening and training process
  • Are dependable and consistent in meeting time commitments
  • Commit about 6 hours a month, for at least 6 months duration of mentoring

About

Funded with a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation of the State of Michigan and the Kellogg Foundation, our project began in April of 2006. The goal of the project is to form multiple collaborative bodies in the state to begin development of a comprehensive system of early childhood care and education for 0-5 year olds and their families. This system is similar to the Smart Start system of North Carolina and the state of Michigan is receiving technical assistance in our efforts from the state of North Carolina.
