Dora the Explorer and Kindergarten Readiness Fun

By Director

Great Start is about educating and helping to assure that each child in Michigan receives a Great Start to enter kindergarten prepared. The recent Michigan kindergarten teacher survey, unfortunately did not show us that this is happening for all of our youngest Michigan citizens. All children deserve to be prepared for their first school experience with the resources, skills and support they need to be successful in life and school. Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer and the Children’s Defense Fund have teamed up with the National Parent Teacher Association to create an initiative aimed at preparing preschoolers for their biggest adventure yet – going to kindergarten!

Help your child get ready for kindergarten and let Dora help you!A free simple quiz will create a customized readiness plan for your preschooler. Focusing on early learning skills, social skills, healthy habits and parent involvement.

About

Funded with a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation of the State of Michigan and the Kellogg Foundation, our project began in April of 2006. The goal of the project is to form multiple collaborative bodies in the state to begin development of a comprehensive system of early childhood care and education for 0-5 year olds and their families. This system is similar to the Smart Start system of North Carolina and the state of Michigan is receiving technical assistance in our efforts from the state of North Carolina.
