Bed Wetting
Bed Wetting from Kimberley Blaine on Vimeo.
Over and over I hear from frustrated parents about their child wetting the bed. The frustration of cleaning the sheets, buying diapers and training pants, limiting water, waking the child up at night and doing this over and over again, just for another accident to happen. I hear of children hiding their blankets, crying, feeling ashamed and embarrassed and my heart melts for that child.
According to Kids Health:
“The fancy name for bedwetting, or sleep wetting, is nocturnal (nighttime) enuresis (say: en-yoo-ree-sus). Enuresis runs in families. This means that if you urinate, or pee, while you are asleep, there’s a good chance that a close relative also did it when he or she was a kid. Just like you may have inherited your mom’s blue eyes or your uncle’s long legs, you probably inherited bedwetting, too.”
Nobody wets the bed on purpose; this is the key thing for any parent to remember. Talk with your family doctor and do some research and reading to learn more about child development, why some children might wet the bed and get some pointers from experts like Kimberly Blaine, seen in the video. Remember, stay calm and do not yell and scream at your child because this will not help them stop nor will it make the situation any better.
