About Great Start Parent Coalition

The Great Start Parent Coalition is made up of parents, grandparents and other caregivers from the cities,Great Start towns and villages that comprise the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District. Our goal is to provide insight into the life of families raising children 0-5 in Charlevoix, Emmet and North Antrim Counties as well as to participate in events that support the lives of families with small children in our area. We meet approximately once every month and are always looking for additional members to join our team!

Being part of the Great Start Parent Coalition allows parents to connect, have fun together, teach others about the importance of 0-5 brain developent, connect parents to resources and support our youngest citizens all the while – making a HUGE difference with just a few short hours a month.

About

Funded with a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation of the State of Michigan and the Kellogg Foundation, our project began in April of 2006. The goal of the project is to form multiple collaborative bodies in the state to begin development of a comprehensive system of early childhood care and education for 0-5 year olds and their families. This system is similar to the Smart Start system of North Carolina and the state of Michigan is receiving technical assistance in our efforts from the state of North Carolina.
